I'm pleased that my writing and editing projects have taken such varied forms. Below are some representative projects that illustrate the range of what I can do for you.
I was honored to copyedit two beautiful books on our new president: Obama: The Historic Front Pages and The Obama Time Capsule, a pathbreaking print-on-demand book whose launch was covered by ABC News.
For a San Antonio athletic trainer, I edited the content for his website and worked with him to devise a site structure that would best showcase the information.
For an independent entrepreneur, I proofread the second edition of orijinz, a word-related card game he created.
For an Olympia, Washington, design firm, I proofread a set of training manuals for excimer laser systems used in eye surgery. I've been copyediting for the firm since 2001. Its owner says, "Sherri Schultz is fantastic! She has great skill with the nuance of language and consistently delivers work on time, even when faced with absurd deadlines."
For a Seattle-area family, I proofread the memoir of their grandfather, which they self-published to honor his 90th birthday.
I wrote and designed a website for the University Mound Ladies Home, a 125-year-old San Francisco
institution serving elderly women.
I
was commissioned to write the copy for a program commemorating
the 20th anniversary of the Washington, D.C.– based Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship
Program. Dr. Scoville's son said of working with me,
"You have done an inspired job that will inspire others in years to
come. Never have I had more fun putting a final draft together."
I've written features on travel and current affairs for the Northwest Asian Weekly, and reviews for Seattle Weekly and Washington, D.C.'s City Paper. Read a few here.
After I proofread Book Lust (by Seattle's "rock-star librarian," Nancy Pearl), the publisher specifically requested me as copyeditor for her follow-up, More Book Lust.
Nancy said of working with me, "I have been constantly marveling at the
seemingly small but important changes you made and how they improved
the manuscript immensely. I also loved your questions and comments and
felt like we were talking to one another."
I copyedit new articles each week for the website of the Poetry Foundation, a national organization based in Chicago.
I've been the copyeditor for PhotoMedia, a quarterly photography magazine, since 1998. "YOU ROCK!" says the publisher.
The Mountaineers Books sought me out to copyedit Forget Me Not: Journeys of the Heart, a literary memoir by the widow of a noted mountaineer. The copyediting process involved working with the author to sensitively trim about 10,000 words from her heartfelt manuscript; the book went on to win a National Outdoor Book Association award. The author wrote me, "I can't thank you enough for your amazing talent and the work you have done."
I wrote all of the content for this site and created and designed it using VistaPrint's SiteBuilder.
