My writing and editing takes many forms, from books to websites to Facebook pages to email. Below is a sampling of some recent projects.
I copyedited The Obama Time Capsule, a pathbreaking print-on-demand book whose launch was covered by ABC News.
I copyedited the text for Bruce Cockburn: A View from the Woodpile, a self-published collection of photographs of the noted Canadian singer-songwriter.
I wrote, designed, and launched a website for the University Mound Ladies Home, a nonprofit assisted living facility in San Francisco.
I copyedit website content for the Poetry Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Chicago, and PhotoMedia, a Seattle-based photography publication.
For a Seattle investor, I proofread crucial email and business communications, usually on short notice and with a quick turnaround.
I copyedited William & Catherine: Their Romance and Royal Wedding in Photographs (Sterling Publishing), working throughout the royal wedding weekend on tight deadlines so the book could be published soon after the big event. I copyedited similar quick-turnaround books for the same publisher on President Obama, Nelson Mandela, and Ronald Reagan.
I copyedited the text for My Valentines: 21 Years of Portraits from the Family Album, a self-published book by a San Francisco photographer.
For an Eastside family, I edited a book-length personal history of their grandfather, which they self-published and presented to him on his 90th birthday.
I proofread Book Lust and copyedited More Book Lust, by "rock-star librarian" Nancy Pearl, for Sasquatch Books. Said Nancy: "I have been constantly marveling at the seemingly small but so important changes you made and how they improved the manuscript immensely. I also loved your questions and comments and felt like we were talking to one another."

I copyedited the text for Mad Day Out, a limited-edition volume of photographs of the young Beatles, taken in 1968 by Stephen Goldblatt, now a noted cinematographer (Julie & Julia, Batman Forever, The Prince of Tides). Hand bound and finished in white linen, it was created as a fundraiser for Fotovision, a San Francisco nonprofit organization that promotes photojournalism.
I was commissioned to write the copy for a 20-page program celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Herbert Scoville Peace Fellowship Program in Washington, D.C. Said the son of Dr. Scoville, "You have done an inspired job that will inspire others in years to come. Never have I had more fun putting a final draft together."
For a venerable San Francisco nonprofit seeking to build awareness of its services, I helped develop a promotional strategy, designed flyers and invitations, wrote press releases, initiated outreach to related groups, assembled a mailing list, and helped publicize a 125th-anniversary celebration that drew more than 125 guests.
I've written features and reviews on travel and cultural events for the Northwest Asian Weekly, Seattle Weekly, and City Paper. Read a sampling here.
